Volkl have decided to bring back the camber and make this once great ski even better than the original. The 2019 M5 Mantra’s waist has dropped to 96 mm. The new Mantra has changed away from it’s previous full rocker shape to just Tip & Tail rocker making the ski more energetic feeling underfoot and with a bigger sweet spot. Reinforced with a Titanal frame, imagine two elongated horseshoe shaped sheets of metal that sit along the edges and through the end of the ski on both the tip and tail. While we’ve seen some similar ideas from other companies, Volkl’s is unique as these two sheets of metal don’t actually connect underfoot.
The M5 Mantra still cranks out some solid turns at speed with extreme stability but also turns more easily at slower speeds. Stance is now slightly further forward which allows a more powerful carve, more like the older models. It is slightly narrower this year at 96mm waist but still performs in the POW
